What's included in the training
The trainer will provide a thorough introduction to the principles of scent work and prepare
you and your dog for the practical session.
During the course, each participant will have the opportunity to introduce their dog to the scent of a real truffle.
Each dog and owner’s participation is treated individually, and the exercises are tailored to the dog’s age, experience and motivation.
During the theory session, you will learn:
- The principles of training a truffle dog and how to structure scent work
- How to properly introduce the scent of truffles and begin the search
- How to teach your dog to mark a find correctly (so that the dog does not eat the truffle)
- How to motivate and reward your dog correctly, and common training mistakes
- The next steps for continuing independently after the training
During the practical sessions, participants will begin training their dogs
to detect the scent of truffles in an exclusive truffle plantation.
The exercises are conducted under the guidance of a trainer, starting with simple tasks and gradually increasing in difficulty in line with the dog’s abilities.
During the training, the dog will learn to:
- Distinguish the scent of truffles from other natural scents
- Actively search for the scent source and remain in the correct spot once it has been found
- Clearly and calmly indicate the location to its owner
- Work in close cooperation with its owner
The trainer will provide each participant with personalised feedback and recommendations on how to successfully continue the training at home.
Training sessions take place in a special plantation where over 600 truffle trees have been planted. Depending on the weather, the practical part is carried out either in the plantation, in the forest or in a designated training area.

- EVERY DOG IS WELCOME – Dogs of any breed can be trained to become truffle dogs! The only thing that matters is the willingness to work together.
- WE WORK WITH REAL TRUFFLES – Real truffles are used during the training – this allows the dog to become familiar with the correct, authentic scent right from the start.
- SUCCESSFUL FINDS IN ESTONIAN NATURE – Many of the dogs that took part in our previous training courses have subsequently found truffles on their own in Estonia’s forests and parks.
